Matthew 4:19 reads...
And he said unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Fishermen have a big job. I began to research what they do.
Could you imagine being stuck out on a boat for several weeks, sometimes 6-8 months at a time.
During dangerous storms that test your faith.
During the summer when the blazing sun beats down. In the winter when the water becomes icy and freezes over.
Casting your nets all day, hoping to catch your daily limit. And if not, working twice as hard the next day to make up for it.
After catching your quota, cleaning and properly storing the fish until you arrive safely on land.
I'm sure the men on the boat is concerned about one thing only, other than their own safety...the fish. That is their life support, their earnings, their livelihood. If they don't collect fish, they don't get paid!
We are all fishers of men, called by God. We should have only one thing on our mind, other than our own salvation...others.
Come rain or shine. No matter our own storms of life, heated moments, or cold feet.
Did we get our quota for the day, or do we need to work harder tomorrow?
Did we tend to them properly till safely on their own?
Are we thinking of others on a daily basis, as if they are our life support, our livelihood?
Are we going to hear, Well done my good and faithful servant?
The jewels in our crown will truly show, who was a fisher of men.
